What's Cooking at the Harvey House
I enjoy cooking for my family and friends when I have the time to devote to making a great meal. Of course there are those quickie-weeknight-staples we are all familiar with. I have opened my fair share of Hamburger Helper boxes and tossed frozen pizzas in the oven more than I can count. But when time permits, I like to prepare special meals, try new recipes, and have a creative and relaxing time in the kitchen.
So much of what I prepare comes from the women in my family. I have recipes from my Great-Grandmother, Grandmother, Aunts, Mother, and even my "Grill Master" Father. And when I got married my husband brought along many of his favorites as well.
I spend time watching Food Network, surfing the net, and reading cookbooks in order to find new inspiration and ideas. I usually follow the recipe exactly the first time. After that, I go in my own direction.
I am challenged with a husband who refuses to eat any vegetables except for green beans, english peas, corn, and tomatos. Well, sometimes he will eat other types of beans, but I don't like those, myself, so I rarely cook them. He also abhors anything having to do with rice. If he had his preference, all we'd ever eat is hamburger, potatos, and corn. My step-son, Alex, follows his father's example and can be just as picky. So I've had to find some creative ways to introduce fruits, grains, and veggies.
I hope you might find something here that provides you with a time saving short cut or offers you some new ideas and suggestions for making your cooking time more fun and interesting. And of course I'm always eager to get new recipes from others so please send me an email and share some of your favorites.
