General Notes:

Mabry and Elizabeth were living in the Oak Lawn section of Greenville County in 1850-60. By 1880 they had moved to Cherokee Township. Spartanburg, SC and in 1900 were in Woodruff, SC. On the 1900 census Elizabeth said she had 13 children 8 that was still living.

 

Mabry was in Co. B., 18th SC Infantry during war.. Name was listed as "Mayberry" instead of Mabry.. Enlisted at Unionville, SC December 24, 1861 and listed on last roll March 9, 1865 on Hospital Register.. His records show that he guarded a bridge for a while and then became a cook

His name was listed in obituary as "Otimus" vice Artemus. Artemus is correct. The 1900 census shows his wifwe, Lou, (Lula on the form) as being born in 1845 vice 1854. It shows her age as 54. vice 45. If she was born in 1845, it would make her 100 years old at death. A page from the family bible shows her birth date as 1854.

Robert also known as "Bob", Was a United States Naval Officer until he met his wife to be, Norma Lee Eddleman. After they were married, Bobs affection for his wife far outweighed his commitmant to the Navy. After going AWOL on at least two different occasions, he was given a dishonorable discharge. .

They eventually moved to California where Bob went to work for Rockwell International. On January 27 1968, a large furnace exploded and Bob was fatally burned. He died two days later.

Survivors include her daughters, Jane Johnson, Carnesville, GA and Denise Turner, Alto, GA; her sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Turner, Jr. and Shirley, Greenville, Texas, James and Martha Turner, Alto, GA, and Ricky and Debbie Turner, Mt. Airy, GA; her son Randy Turner, Cleveland, GA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Turner was the last of her immediate family.

 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton, South Carolina.

 

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
